Class Descriptions
Traditional Hula Classes
Kids (ages 4-12)
In this class children learn the graceful art of Hawaiian Hula with a focus on traditional foot, arm and body movements. It’s about having fun and learning to move and tell a story accompanied to music. We warm up with some stretching, learn/practice basic hula steps to both ipu and music, learn hand movements to a song, then put the steps and hand movements together and practice the song to music. No prior dance experience needed.
Hula for the Soul™ Classes
Teens/Adults (Ages 13+)
Hula for the Soul™ classes are more about connecting your body and spirit with your divine feminine energy through soul dancing, lively music, hula as meditative movement, ancient chant and breathing exercises. These classes are all about having fun and moving your body in a gentle and rhythmic motion.
A typical Hula for the Soul™ class starts with a chant to bring in the blessing for our time together. Then we warm up to fun music and soul dancing (dancing-as-warmup!), learn/review basic hula steps and learn a hula. We typically close the class with deep breathing and a short meditation or visualization.
Hula for the Soul™ classes are designed to be fun for all ages, body types and fitness levels. You will move to your own inner rhythm and at your own pace. Think “hula-with-a-yoga-twist” or “movement as meditation” and come enjoy! No prior dance experience needed.

Private Instruction
Learn a complete hula dance for your special occasion!
You will learn a complete hula and leave with a DVD of the hula so you can practice at home and a CD of the song so you have everything you need for a memorable performance. We’ll have a short consultation call prior to your session and we’ll choose a song that best fits your occasion.
*Note: There will be a slight additional charge for custom choreography to a song you choose (i.e. “our song”)

Yvonne Ohumukini Urness has been teaching hula for 3 years and dancing hula for over 40 years. As a child she performed in her family’s Polynesian Revue at corporate events, social clubs, private parties, local television shows and regular “Aloha Friday” gigs. She has performed at numerous locations throughout Northern and Southern California, including Disneyland. A former competitive hula dancer, she has competed both on the mainland and in Hawai’i. Yvonne teaches traditional Hawaiian hula (‘auana style) as well as her unique Hula for the Soul™ – a fun and original style that combines soul dancing, hula, chant and meditation / visualization for an experience that moves your body and awakens your spirit!
Creator of Hula for the Soul™ and co-author of the book Power to Change Yvonne helps women reconnect with their divine feminine energy through hula dance, workshops and retreats.
